Back-to-school shoppers enjoy sales tax holiday

Shoppers from around the Albemarle visited Elizabeth City Saturday to take advantage of tax-free savings on school supplies during this weekend’s tax-free holiday. One of those shoppers was Dottie Best, who spent Saturday morning shopping for back-to-school clothes for her 7-year-ancient daughter, Shannon, inside Goody’s at the Southgate Mall. Best, who lives in Edenton, said she didn’t shop during last year’s tax-free holiday. But, the savings she loved Saturday certainly helped her shopping budget. “It really does add up, and then you can buy small extras,” Best said.
