Phils win first World Series since 1980 (AP)

Written by on Wednesday, October 29th, 2008 in Latest News.

From losingest team to longest game, the Philadelphia Phillies are World Series champions. Strange as that sounds. Strange as it was. Brad Lidge and the Phillies finished off the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 in a three-inning sprint Wednesday night to win a suspended Game 5 nearly 50 hours after it started. Left in limbo by a two-day rainstorm, the Phillies seesawed to their first championship since 1980.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck has attacked the scandal surrounding Sarah Palin’s extravagant $150K wardrobe and considered the negative attention “sexist”.

“Instead of the issues, they are focused, fixated on her wardrobe,” Elisabeth Hasselbeck said to loud cheers from the crowd. “Now, with everything going on in the world, seems a bit odd. But let me tell you, this is deliberately sexist. I know you know that.”

Elisabeth Hasselbeck further defended Sarah Palin the next day on The View by basically calling her a clueless fashionista, “She calls Jimmy Choos Johnny Choos. This is not a fashionista by any means. She’s not a clotheshorse. This is not even her property.”

Two days after the shooting deaths of her mother and brother, Jennifer Hudson appealed on Sunday for the public’s help in finding her 7-year-old nephew, Julian King. In a bid to even further bolster the search effort, Hudson’s family is offering a $100,000 reward for information given to the Chicago police resulting in the youth’s location.

“We ask that all inquiries be directed to the Chicago Police Department, Area 1 Detective Division at (312) 747-8380,” said a statement from Hudson’s publicist.

In her initial effort to help find her nephew, Hudson appealed for help via a MySpace blog entry where the Secret Life of Bees star posted a picture of her sister’s son. “Thank you all for your prayers and your calls. Please keep praying for our family and that we get Julian King back home safely,” the blog entry reads. “If anyone has any information about his whereabouts please contact the authorities immediately.”

An Amber Alert remains in effect for Julian, who has not been seen since the day the bodies of his grandmother, Darnell Donerson, 57, and 29-year-old uncle Jason Hudson were found in the home they shared on the city’s South Side, reports the Associated Press.

The Amber Alert listed William Balfour, the estranged husband of Jennifer Hudson’s sister, Julia, as a suspect in a “double homicide investigation.” Citing “his active parole violation unrelated to this investigation,” Chicago police have transferred to state authorities custody of Balfour, who at this time is described as a “person of interest.”

“Detectives are working 24 hours on this case,” a Chicago police spokesperson tells the AP. “There’s a lot of forensic evidence. We have to work the evidence and try and solve this case. Most importantly, we want to find the child.”

Hudson was reportedly in Chicago with her family over the weekend, though her exact location was not disclosed.

Do we gotta have Faith?

Written by on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008 in Latest News.

Seen this?

It’s Faith Hill, 41, mom of three, on the cover of Shape. This past January, she had surgery on her knee, keeping her from working out for six months. Now, thanks to daily four-mile elliptical sessions, light weights, crunches, push-ups, and thrice-weekly Pilates classes, she is ripped and chiseled and all sorts of MILF. She’s proud of her bod and is calling the magazine cover “my 41st birthday present to myself.”

Honestly, that workout routine sounds killer and no matter what she looks like, she should be shout-it-from-the-hilltops proud of all her accomplishments. But I just can’t help think of this.

Am I being anti-feminist? Drinking the Hatorade? Just plain mean? Am I so jaded that I have less than zero doubt those bikini abs were airbrushed in?
