It wasn’t at all lost on David Stern that on the day Barack Obama was elected the 44th president of the United States he laced up his sneakers and went to shoot hoops. Tennis and sailing were for the Kennedys. Reagan and Ford were ancient football guys. Northeast to Southwest, Yale to Texas, the Bushes were about baseball. Obama has lately been wearing a White Sox cap, but as Stern, the longtime NBA commissioner, place it, “Focusing on basketball as a sport for fitness, what a wonderful statement that the next commander in chief has game.”
