The Country Music Awards were last night, and people are still talking. But it wasn’t a poorly lip-synched performance or slurred acceptance speech that got folks excited. Rather, it was the unexpected return of Canadian country music star Shania Twain.

After four years of flying under the radar, the lovely songstress presented the night’s final award — entertainer of the year — to Kenny Chesney. Upon taking the stage, she received a standing ovation, and then hinted that fans can expect to be hearing more from the crooner. Quoteth Ms. Twain: “I hope to be seeing a lot more of you.”

Searchers certainly sought out more on Shania. Queries on her name surged 140% to land among our top 1,000 overall terms. Related lookups on “shania twain dress,” “shania twain cma 2008,” and “where has shania twain been” also posted huge gains.

The last query is telling. According to People, Twain’s “presence marked the singer’s first public appearance since announcing her separation from husband Robert ‘Mutt’ Lange in May.” She’s been out of the public eye for sometime, but based on last night’s appearance, fans are thrilled to have her back. And for those waiting for an album, sources report that Twain “hasn’t place down her guitar since the split. The songs are pouring out of her.”

Man, it feels like a comeback.
