Frank Curre was working in the kitchen aboard the USS Tennessee when he heard a bomb blast on Dec. 7, 1941 . Curre, 85 and a lifetime Waco resident, was just 18 years ancient at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor that would launch the United States’ direct involvement in World War II. Today , 67 years later, Curre will attend the Pearl Harbor memorial service in Fredericksburg , where the National Museum of the Pacific War and the Admiral Nimitz Foundation have held similar events since 1985 . Fredericksburg is also hosting the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association’s national conference, which concludes today . Curre was one of thousands who served during the surprise military strike by the Japanese navy against the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
