ZIMBABWE U.N. lashes Mugabe over cholera The United Nations chief rejected President Robert Mugabe’s claims that Zimbabwe’s cholera epidemic was under control. U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said he was “deeply disturbed at the deteriorating humanitarian situation there, for which the leadership of Zimbabwe cannot evade responsibility.” The World Health Organization said the cholera death toll in Zimbabwe had risen to 792 people since August. Mugabe said Thursday “there is no cholera” in Zimbabwe, but the next day his spokesman, George Charamaba, said Mugabe was merely being sarcastic in trying to make his point that the crisis was contained.
