Iraqi Security Forces Work In Often Uneasy Alliance

As U.S. troops draw down in Iraq, the country’s U.S.-supported security forces will have to assume control. Eventually, the Iraqi police will replace the Iraqi army in providing security for many cities. But for now, tensions are simmering between the different security branches.

President goes to Florida to sell stimulus bill

President Barack Obama, pressing the case for his stimulus plot, said Tuesday that a failure to revive the economy could cost him a second term as president. Continuing his campaign-style tour of struggling cities, Obama spoke to about 1,500 people Tuesday in Fort Myers, saying that the stimulus bill shouldn’t become a casualty of Washington infighting. The Fort Myers region has been ravaged by home foreclosures. The area’s unemployment rate has hit 10 percent.

China state broadcaster apologizes for hotel fire (AP)

AP – The fireworks show that gutted a luxury hotel at the new, iconic headquarters for China’s main television network and killed a firefighter was so powerful that a special permit was needed — but it was never obtained, the state broadcaster said Tuesday.
