Miss California Answers Perez Hilton on Gay Marriage

A California congresswoman was overheard on telephone calls intercepted by the National Security Agency agreeing to seek favorable treatment from the Bush administration for two pro-Israel lobbyists investigated for espionage, according to current and former government officials. One official, who has seen transcripts of several wiretapped calls, said Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., appeared to agree to intercede on behalf of two members of a prominent lobbying organization in exchange for help in lobbying top congressional Democrats to have her appointed chairwoman of the House Intelligence Committee. That official said that someone seeking help for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee employees is recorded asking Harman to intervene with the Justice Department, but she responded by saying that she would have more influence with a White House official whom she did not identify.

Chrysler Unit Said to Lose Aid Over Pay Issue

The Treasury Department withdrew its offer to further aid Chrysler Financial because some of its top executives would not agree to compensation waivers, sources said.
