Nick Blackburn is enjoying the Minnesota Twins’ late surge and everything that comes with it. “This is what we all play for. It’s a blast,” the right-hander said Monday night after pitching seven sharp innings to help Minnesota beat the fading Chicago White Sox 7-0 for its seventh victory in eight games.

I sent my 11-year-ancient son to school today with a stuffy nose and mild cough, as I’ve done countless times in the past. Now, though, I’m wondering whether I should have kept him home. How do I know it’s really a garden-variety cold and not the swine flu?
