Health Care Passes House

WASHINGTON — In a victory for President Barack Obama, the Democratic-controlled House narrowly passed landmark health care legislation Saturday night to expand coverage to tens of millions who lack it and place tough new restrictions on the insurance industry. Republican opposition was nearly unanimous.

The 220-215 vote cleared the way for the Senate to start debate on the issue that has come to overshadow all others in Congress.

Ida becomes hurricane again in northwest Caribbean (Reuters)

45 p.m. EST shows a mass of clouds east of the Yucatan Peninsula associated with Tropical Storm Ida as it moves generally northward towards the Gulf of Mexico.  This storm may become a threat to the Gulf Coast early next week. Clear skies are noted through the East as no precipitation is observed. Ohio Town Honors Forgotten Viet Vets

A small Ohio town threw a long overdue welcome home parade to salute veterans of the Vietnam war, whose homecomings in the seventies were marred by anti-war feeling.
