The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed left wing Vinny Prospal to a one-year contract extension, the club announced on Wednesday.
Prospal, 36, was an unrestricted free agent and a name that had come up in trade rumours ahead of the Feb. 27 deadline.
The Czech Republic native has scored nine goals and 24 assists in 53 games in his first season with the club.
“We are very excited to have Vinny signed for another year,” club general manager Scott Howson said in a statement. “His leadership and play on the ice have certainly been positives for us this season.”
Prospal is 26th among active NHL players with 713 career points, comprised of 236 goals and 477 assists. The much-travelled left wing has also played for Philadelphia, Ottawa, Florida, Tampa Bay, Anaheim, and the New York Rangers.
