Yale saw an insurgence of Upper East Siders when the stars of Gossip Girl took over the school for their college visits on Monday night’s episode (October 13 on the CW). Where there are huge dreams, there is even larger drama, and the girls just couldn’t seem to behave themselves.

The opening scene set the tone for the whole episode with Blair’s “My Honest Lady” nightmare in which she plays the struggling version of Eliza Dolittle and Serena plays the poised and polished version of the character. I need to take a moment out to say how much I loved the costumes for this scene—fabulous. Blair is obviously struggling with being in Serena’s shadow, but she thinks that her visit to Yale will change everything. Just as she’s about to drink the orange juice that Dorota brings to her in bed, she sees Page Six with a picture of Serena. It just fuels her fire against her ex-BFF even more.

But it looks like Blair isn’t the only one who wants to go to the ivy league school. Dan, Nate and Chuck all choose to visit on the same day. Dan legitimately wants to go to the school for their English department, Nate considers it a backup school because he would rather go to a school (like USC)where people don’t know about his family and Chuck, well Chuck is taking the practical approach to finding a college and is looking for the schools with the best secret societies. I have to admit that the whole plotline about everyone wanting to go to Yale at the same time is a small unbelievable.

Serena seems to be the only one content with her choice of visiting Brown University—that is until Blair really bashes Brown and tells Serena that she didn’t stand a chance of getting into Yale in the first place. Yep, B basically calls S stupid right to her face. Small does Blair know that Serena got a hand-written invitation from the Yale’s admission office for a school visit. Egged-on by Blair’s badmouthing, Serena decides to hop on the Yale-bound bandwagon and visit the school. (more…)
