The Winnipeg Jets overcame a two-goal deficit in the final 2:15 of regulation, then prevailed in a shootout for a 3-2 victory over the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.
Evander Kane and Dustin Byfuglien awoke a pedestrian Jets attack with power-play goals to force the game into overtime. Blake Wheeler and Bryan Small scored in the shootout, and Ondrej Pavelec stopped shots by Alexander Semin and Mathieu Perreault.
All of the game’s goals came in the final 10 1/2 minutes of the third period. Alex Ovechkin broke a scoreless tie with 10:14 to play, then Semin made it 2-0 with 7:30 remaining. Ovechkin was also the only Capitals player to score in the shootout.
