Quebec public daycare workers set to strike

Written by on February 10th, 2012 in Latest News.

More than 300 publicly funded daycares across Quebec will be closed on Friday while workers stage a one-day protest.

It’s the second single-day strike this week involving 8,000 daycare workers and thousands of families in the province.

Workers have been without a contract for two years.

The sticking points in contract talks have been salaries, vacation time and schedules.

Quebec Family Minister Yolande James says the strike will be a major inconvenience for parents.

Many parents, but, say they support the daycare workers’ struggle for better work conditions.
