An 18-year-ancient made his first court appearance Saturday morning, a day after he was arrested in the shooting deaths of a woman and her teenage daughter at their home south of Belleville, Ont.

Dean Brown of Belleville was remanded into custody after briefly appearing in the Kingston courthouse via video link from the Quinte West Ontario Provincial Police detachment, where he is being held.

He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one of attempted murder.

The victims found dead at the home near the small, rural community of Mountain View have been identified as Tracy Hannah, 46, and her daughter Whitney Hannah, 14.

Tracy Hannah’s 18-year-ancient daughter, Shannon, was airlifted to Kingston General Hospital with serious injuries. There are reports she and the suspect had been dating until recently.

Police said another teenage girl, who was Whitney’s friend, escaped the early-morning shooting by hiding in a closet.
